Are you constrained or exalted by your perspectives?
Raising your game by changing your perspective
One of the things I often end up doing with my coaching clients is helping them see that they’re in a perspective and how this perspective is impacting what’s possible for them or not whether it be in terms of being creative in finding solutions or getting lost in the swirl of their busy minds.
I share the following so that you may awaken to the fact that your own mind is always in a perspective and that you can always access new and more helpful perspectives for your life.
It’s the first day of the second week of my 30 day Writers Challenge and I’d assumed it would get easier with time. It appears I was wrong! I woke up feeling resistant and anxious about the writing. Last week the writing part had been fun and ideas had come easily. It would appear I’d wrongly assumed this would continue! lol
The constraints of a current unexamined perspective…
I could feel I was in achiever mode where in my mind there was no allowance for being a rookie at something new nor any grace to learn - don’t even mention the spectre of making any mistakes! According to my mind if I wrote rubbish which was highly likely apparently you would all hate me and there’d be no way back. I’m imagining you have similar “friendly” voice in your head (?) and you know the tight feeling in the pit of your stomach and rigidity in the body that comes with it? Not to mention the feeling of fear.
Elevate to a higher perspective…
Fortunately a new thought occurred to me to remember what I’d originally intended the writers challenge to be about which was to discover if I enjoyed writing; to challenge myself to be more visible; and to find my wonderful people. This “discovery” perspective freed me up to embrace the learning, experimenting, making mistakes (ish :-)), and persisting for the joy of discovery. It felt light, open, spacious. Fear was replaced with curiosity.
Elevate to a higher perspective….
Then another perspective naturally arose - to do this all from the heart. Show up each day, let my intuitive mind throw up ideas and to just write from the heart. The topic doesn’t really matter as at the end of the day coming from love, reaching out and connecting with you all is what truly matters. It’s in the feeling rather than any clever words.
Heart connections are enriching, inspiring, loving and healing. I think we need more of that in the world don’t you?
So three different perspectives through which to perceive and experience the exact same external activity. One created fear and resistance, the second a lightness and excitement and the third an innate knowing and natural connection to what is.
May this cause you to catch when you’re caught in a restricting perspective and remind you that there are always many more creative options to allow in.
Love this. Really helpful to see how you’ve structured this and how I could apply this to myself.
I’d like to apply this method to my attitude towards grading student work.
